His images REALLY stood out to me - I think it was combination of many things. The colors in his images, the stories that they tell, and the incredible insight that it gives.

This is a quote from an interview with the photographer :

"Most of these folks were once inhabitants of a small beach side community in Bugress, Maine. Most being adopted children and middle class run-aways. But they're shanty little homes were giving the town a bad image and were forced to be leveled to make room for a blanket of high rise condos. So I guess the handfull of polaroids I have of these people would be the only true documentation of the diaspora of this once thriving group of whatever you want to call em."

So I JUST bought a plane ticket to go to New York in April! It was an early birthday present from my Dad that was VERY MUCH APPRECIATED... Me and Bubba will be going to for about 5 days to look at potential Graduate schools for him - but to also play play play!!!!!! 

I did an internship with Teen Vogue in Manhattan this past Spring and have been looking through all my pictures to pump myself up. I also kept a tiny Moleskin of all the places I fell in love with and wanted to revisit - it will definitely come in handy on this trip! There is this amazing Indian Restaurant I want to go back to - It not only had incredible food but an amazingly fun atmosphere - check it out - www.panna2.com

In the above picture, I am on the balcony of a friend's apartment that I stayed at every once in a while - I lived in a town called Rye that was about 45 minutes upstate New York so it was nice to stay in the city every once in a while. I think I would have had a much different experience if I lived in Manhattan or the surrounding area but my set up in Rye was so cheap that I couldn't pass it up. I spent a lot of time out there on that balcony just thinking and taking everything in. I didn't meet a lot of people while I was there so I had a lot of me time... There were very fun times and very very hard times - I made one good friend named Lizzy O - We interned together at T.Vogue. She was in the photo department and I was in the Art department so we rarely got to hang at work. She basically saved me towards the end of my time there - went out with my on my 21st birthday to a bar in Brooklyn. I am hoping to see her while I am visiting in April - we have kept in touch :) 

I am so excited to be back in that place but with probably my favorite person ever right now, Bubba :) I will have someone to experience everything with... someone to talk to about how amazing everything is instead of just thinking it to myself, it got old being there by myself after a while! ha... CAN'T WAIT!

Tunes that Make Me Happy.

So these are the tunes that are engulfing me right now. I genuinely don't know what I would do without music. It allows you to feel things that cannot be expressed with words.... These artist help me stay sane throughout my 12 hour school days!

Them + a cigarette + some deep breaths = YES!

This film inspired me this evening. It opens with a gorgeous view of a neighborhood in a hilly part of Paris, its grey cobblestone streets and stairways ghostly in a morning mist - the boy and the balloon are inseparable.

  

We Are Children Who Don't Need Much

So in the spirit of how busy Bubba and I can be - we decided to go all out and leave everything behind for a whole weekend! Phones off, no emails, nothing.... This was harder for Bubba than it was for me but I think he was pretty distracted by all the fun and did a good job. We went to Lake Arcadia about an hour away from Stillwater - we timed everything pretty poorly and got there right as the sun was going down. We also found out upon arrival that it was too windy for fires and they were banned for the weekend! We had a whole van full of groceries that depended on a fire... we made do with the the grill and charcoal from a nearby gas station. Our dinner was tasty, the music was good, so we danced.... the whole evening! Vicki kept us warm as the cold front moved in - Thank you Vicki :)



We spent the next day in Oklahoma City at the Art Museum downtown. There was an exhibition on the Harlem Renaissance that was incredibly enjoyable - http://www.okcmoa.com/harlemrenaissance/ and also I finally got to see a collection done by glass blower Dale Chihuly - http://www.chihuly.com/ There was a film playing about the men that he studied within a tiny community in Italy - it explained a lot of the creative and physical processes of making the work! Look at his website, it's insane... After that we decided to go to the Botanial Myriad Gardens because it was right around the corner - lets just say that I now feel like I have been to the rainforest. It was like stepping into another world! We also managed to find a Good Will a couple steps away under this highway - Bubba and I thought we were going to get shot and mugged at the same time, but we did find great shoes and a cardigans :) Totally worth our lives.
